Our Curriculum

Our Intent

At Moss Hey our challenging and creative curriculum inspires our children to know more and remember more.  We develop curious, resilient and enthusiastic learners to prepare our pupils for the next phase of education and beyond.

Our teaching and learning aims:

  • Provide high-quality teaching
  • Promote high-quality learning and attainment
  • Provide a high-quality learning environment
  • Embed our values and learning behaviours
  • Working in partnership with governors, parents, the Local Authority and the community

Implementation

Our curriculum is carefully sequenced, with clear starting points, meaningful links and clear end points.  Each subject has its own planning journey with core learning and vocabulary identified. Our whole school values and learning behaviours run through our curriculum.

Subjects are taught through our lesson structure to ensure lessons are connected, content is sequenced and knowledge builds cumulatively within the theme - see documents below for our teaching sequence.

Adaptive Teaching: support and challenge

We aim to ensure that our children make maximum progress in all areas of the curriculum by planning and delivering challenging and stimulating lessons.  Teachers will adapt resources, questions and plan pre-teach opportunities where the need is identified.

Learning Environments:

All of our classrooms / learning spaces are well organised and fully inclusive.  We have working walls to support learning and the environments can change regularly to reflect the curriculum.  Classroom resources are organised and labelled so the children have ownership and independence is encouraged.  Table resources are easily accessible so that children have all equipment to hand.

Positive Mental Health:

We use a scheme, My Happy Mind, to help teach and prepare children for tomorrow’s world by building resilient, balanced and happy minds at school.   We believe that we should be equipping all children with the knowledge, skills and tools to thrive in the modern world.

Impact

  • Our internal and external data reflects very good progress and attainment in all subjects
  • Pupils’ books show a learning journey, which is creative, challenging, develops curiosity and where knowledge is built upon.
  • Pupil voice is strong in all subjects; children can articulate and link their learning to deepen their knowledge and understanding
  • Pupils are able to use our values and learning behaviours to move onto the next phase of their learning.
