Science
“Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known”
Intent: To give all children a strong understanding of the world around them, allowing them to discover the processes and ideas that make our world work.
Intent & Implementation
At Moss Hey, it is our intention to provide a high-quality science education that gives children the foundations they need to recognise the importance of science in every aspect of daily life.
Our curriculum will enable children to become enquiry-based learners collaborating through researching, investigating and evaluating experiences. It will encourage respect for living organisms and for the physical environment and enable them to make sense of the world in which they live. We aim to develop a sense of excitement and curiosity about natural phenomena and to encourage children to ask questions about the world around them and work scientifically to further their conceptual understanding and scientific knowledge. For teaching science, we use our lesson structure which gives children a consistent learning approach, revisits and embeds concepts and builds on knowledge.
Our science curriculum includes significant people, we feel it is important for children to learn about role models in science, understand the impact of their work, to challenge stereotypes and be inspired.
We believe that a broad and balanced science education is the entitlement of all children to prepare them for life and widen their curiosity and possibilities in an increasingly scientific and technological world.
