Bastille Day Celebrations

Date: 11th Jul 2020 @ 12:41pm

Bonjour!

I have heard all about the wonderful French day that you all took part in so it would be great to celebrate French again this school year.

Tuesday 14th July is Bastille Day and it’s an important date marking the success of the French revolution.

Even though celebrations will look different in Paris this year, we can still celebrate the day at home. I have found various activities for you to choose from below. Please send any photos of your celebrations to Mrs Power for the Messenger.

  • Learn all about Bastille Day. I have attached a powerpoint and quiz to the blog for you to use. Can you make your own quiz for your family and friends using your knowledge? This website is also very helpful:  https://www.ducksters.com/history/french_revolution/

  • Create a puppet show with the main events of the French Revolution building up to 14th July 1789 with the storming of the Bastille prison. You could print off pictures of the key people or draw your own.

  • Build your own Eiffel tower.  Which materials could you use to make it strong and tall? Look carefully at the structure of the Eiffel tower and see if you can copy it. You could use spaghetti and marshmallows, newspaper or lollipop sticks. Set a challenge between your friends and see who can build the best tower.

  • Look at the various landmarks in Paris and recreate them with building blocks or Lego.

  • Become a French artist for the day. Use the work of Monet or Seurat to inspire you.
